Nagi finds Crawford's lack of reaction to the accusation that he's using Esset's tricks almost as telling as the fact that he's not offering a way to fix the current problems. He never thought he'd actually be disgusted with a Crawford.

What happens if I'm not rash, Brad? Are you going to bring Farf in line? Are you gonna remember that I haven't been a minion for years now? Because right now I'm getting an Old World, Eszett response from you. Farf's updated himself in that he's become a hell of a lot sneakier, but you're regressing.

::Farf's sharp-edged and flirtatious smile hits Schu like summer lightning. No radiance since his shields are holding, just the smile and obvious affectionate lust. He can almost feel his eyes dilating in response. This was not the time for that.::

That would be a problem for you, wouldn't it, Brad? You could lose us both. Oh, and if you're about to bring up how I'm anchored to you and thus can't leave, I'd like to let you know that I'm not anymore. I'm anchored to myself.



Eszett lied about how necessary it was for telepaths to anchor to other people. They lied a lot. It's one of the reasons why we killed them all, remember? I'm not going to work in a team run Eszett-style, and it looks like Farf doesn't want to either. What are you going to do, Brad?

While it's nice knowing you lust after me, Farf, my personality is going to continue to be mine. You've been trying to rewrite me lately, and I am so over putting up with that. If getting me is a problem for you, better give up now.



Good. Ball's in your court now, Brad. You're not Eszett, and we're not your minions. We can be not-your-minions with you or away from you. I got used to you treating me like a person and a partner, and I'm not giving up on it now. It's only for old time's sake that I'm giving you a chance to fix things instead of going straight to the Brad who'll treat me right.

Schu might be standing down, but Nagi isn't. He's more wary of Berserker, but he also knows that Crawford can be a damn fast draw. Any attack that occurs will bounce and that bouncing could be deadly.

But Nagi is also willing to beleive that peace can be reached that quickly among Schwarz.
